Apostolic Activity - Saint John Bosco Concert
Friday, January 24, 2025
Today, we had the special opportunity to hear Symphony Irvine perform at St. Dominic Savio Parish in honor of St. John Bosco. Among the pieces performed was a beautiful arrangement titled “Souls Like Birds,” composed by Josh Rodriguez as a tribute to St. John Bosco. Before the concert, we gathered as ADMA-Y to pray the Rosary together, commemorating Mary Help of Christians on the 24th of this month. We also took time to reflect on the life of St. Francis de Sales (feast day January 24), and discussed his profound influence on St. John Bosco and the Salesians. ADMA-Y warmly welcomed everyone, distributed programs, and assisted guests in finding their seats. After the concert, they generously volunteered their time to offer complimentary beverages and snacks—kindly donated by members of the Salesian Family—to the attendees. A special thank you to all the members of the Salesian Family at our Parish whose dedication and hard work made this event possible for our community.
On the feast day of St. Francis de Sales, we remember and celebrate a saint whose life still inspires us today. Born in France in the 1500s, St. Francis initially planned to pursue law and politics, but he felt called to become a priest instead. Even though his family didn’t support his decision, he courageously spread the Catholic faith, even in dangerous and hostile places. St. Francis believed that holiness wasn’t just for priests or monks—it was for everyone, and he wrote Introduction to the Devout Life to help everyday people live spiritually fulfilling lives. He was known for being kind, humble, and practical, always encouraging others to be gentle and understanding. His life shows that kindness and patience can change the world. After his death, his body remained incorrupt, which is seen as a miracle. His example of love, patience, and kindness in a world full of different opinions is something we can all learn from. St. John Bosco, inspired by St. Francis de Sales, made him the Patron Saint of his ministry, naming it after him—the Salesian Order.
