Meeting Mary - Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Sunday, July 14, 2024

The event focused on Our Lady of Mount Carmel (feast day July 16) allowed participants to learn about the significance of the scapular and its deep connection to the Carmelites and devotion to Mary. Scapulars were created as a sign of devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, meant to symbolize a person's commitment to live a life of prayer, humility, and protection under the care of Mary. The scapular serves as both a reminder of the promise of salvation and a call to live faithfully in imitation of Christ and His Blessed Mother.

In commemoration of these teachings, participants stitched their own scapulars to take home as a personal reminder of their devotion to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The ADMA-Y facilitators took time to explain that the scapular was not just a physical object but a spiritual tool, encouraging the wearer to live out their faith more fully and seek Mary's intercession.

One of the facilitators also shared their personal experience of visiting Our Lady of Mount Carmel in the Holy Land, where they encountered the rich history and spirituality tied to this sacred place, further deepening the meaning of the scapular.

The event offered participants a hands-on way to connect with the tradition of the scapular, understanding its importance in both personal devotion and the broader Catholic faith.
