Apostolic Activity - Ashes to Ashes

Sunday, February 23, 2025

In preparation for Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent, participants engaged in an activity where they created images of three crosses made with ashes from blessed palms, provided by the facilitators. Each cross symbolized a personal reflection on the upcoming Lenten season. Participants were encouraged to reflect on three key areas: Three things they wanted to give up for Lent, helping them practice self-discipline and repentance. Three things that bring them closer to God, emphasizing their spiritual growth and connection during this sacred time. Three things they believe Lent is, allowing them to reflect on its true meaning and purpose. Lent is a time for Catholics to deepen their faith through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It is a season of repentance, where we remember Jesus’ 40 days of fasting in the desert and prepare for His Resurrection at Easter. During this time, prayer helps us grow closer to God, fasting teaches self-control, and almsgiving invites us to care for those in need. These practices help Catholics renew their commitment to living a more Christ-centered life. This activity served as a meaningful way for participants to prepare spiritually for Lent, symbolizing their commitment to sacrifice, prayer, and deeper devotion during this season of penance.
