Apostolic Activity - All Souls & All Saints Day

Sunday, October 27, 2024

All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day are two important days in the Christian calendar, especially for Catholics, marked by reflection and remembrance of the deceased. All Saints’ Day, celebrated on November 1st, honored all saints, known and unknown, who had attained heaven. It was a day of celebrating the lives and contributions of those who led lives of holiness. All Souls' Day, observed on November 2nd, focused on remembering all the faithful departed, praying for their souls' purification and journey to heaven.

These observances were especially meaningful to families and communities who wished to celebrate the lives of their loved ones while praying for their eternal rest. Saint Charades activity was a fun and educational activity where participants acted out the lives or symbols of various saints. For instance, participants acted out St. Joseph’s role in the Loretto Staircase story or showed significant elements of other saints' lives, helping everyone learn about their heroic virtues. We ended with creating a Jar Altar activity this craft activity involved placing printed polar prints or photos of loved ones who had passed away into a decorated jar. This "altar" was displayed with candles, flowers, and other mementos, creating a personal and reflective space to honor those who had gone before. It served as a tangible way to remember and pray for them on All Souls’ Day. These activities served as both a spiritual practice, educational and a heartfelt way to remember those who had passed.
